New baby pics, sad story :(

My friend's sister lost her mare last night...a maiden mare, she foaled 2 weeks early and her uterus prolapsed. They trailered her and her new colt to Virginia Tech, but it was far too late for Oeke.

Oeke means "Sweetheart" in Dutch. Carol bought and imported her as a weanling from Friesland. As a three year old, she was awarded ster status and champion mare at her keuring. I feel awful for Carol: she loved that mare like a child and is absolutely heartbroken over losing her.

She has named the little colt Ficus. He is strong and fiesty, but he's got a long road ahead of him. Hopefully I can post more/better pics of him later. Also, a pic of Oeke on the day of her keuring.

Did you find a surrogate for the foal or is he being raised by hand. Such a sad beginning to his life and sad loss for your friend.

I hope God's grace can help your friend through this hard time!!

That's so sad :( the foal is so pretty I hope he does well. The mare was gorgeous.

That is just terrible. I feel so bad for everyone involved. My prayers and good wishes are being sent their way for a winning battle for the colt. :,,( My feelings are with them all. It is such a shame when the world has to be deprived of such beauty.
