Mine foal in the pasture with the herd, and then I move them into my mare motel with 12 X 24 stalls, and keep them there for 2 couple of days - long enough to get the vet out and make sure the mare and foal are OK and imprint the foal. Then I move them to a paddock for a week or so to work with the foal. After that, it is into the herd...

Thankyou - we have the fencing (currently unplugged as Fox won't go near it - she's learned that it's not good to touch lol). I'll get the battery on charge then........

If your fence is only electric wire types (high tensile wire, polyrope, tape, etc), just make sure you have a strand low enough (around 1 1/2' for us). Foals like to sleep anywhere, and can wind up rolling under a wire fence that is not low enough...and you don't want a mare separated from her young foal by a wire fence.

On the sixth day, God created the Quarter Horse.
