Talking Our first time!!

Ok so my dad informed me that he will be bringing home a broodmare today!!!! I'm really excited. She is AQHA but I have no idea of her lineage(sp?) He is borrowing her froma friend of his who breeds. From my understanding of this my dad is paying for the breeding and will be keeping the mare at our place until the foal is old enough to be weaned then he will be giving her back to his friend. We plan on keeping the foal and training it. My family has experiance with horses but we have never bred before. I know we will have the help of his friend, but I'm just wondering what I should know about pregnancy, foaling, and weaning. Thanks for reading this lil novel. Lol

***Please do not tell me that we should not breed. The desicion has been made. We can finacially support a mare and foal and have many years of experiance with horses. Thank you***

I can't offer much advice since I just had my first foal experience last summer but I am anxiously awaiting pix of the mare and (when the time comes) baby.

Always remember that feeling of looking at a big, open country over the ears of a good horse, seeing a new trail unwind ahead of you, and that ever-spectacular view from the top of the ridge!!! Follow my training blog: http://robertsontraining.blogspot.com/

Buy the book Blessed Are The Broodmares and read it. Then read it again.

Patience is definietly the most important!!
Also when the date for foaling comes expect to exist on zero sleep as you pace nervously up and down to the stable so eeverything is in place then expect to miss the foaling in the 10minutes you sit down!

To give a horse your heart guarantees a love that will last forever undamageable

here's the broodmare. Dad says she just had a colt come off her. Her sire is Doc's Cisco bar and her dam is Smokes Fine Glod. Her name is Shez Fine Gold. Papers say she's dun. I think she looks weird. Lol. Color wise. Anyway. Here's pictures...

Boy, that is a very unique dun color. From what I can see of her confo, I like it. She ought to throw a good baby for you.
