Palominos..

Okay, of course they "can be", but do pure Arabians carry the palomino gene? I've heard people say they can't. I have a rescue Arab that's palomino, but of course he isn't pure. :P, just curious! (:

Nope, Chey Aut is dead on, there is no cream gene nor dun gene nor pearl gene nor champagne gene in Arabs. They're kinda boring in the color department

However, you CAN get extreme flaxen chestnuts like Fire And Ice which fuel a whole new fire of debate for people arguing Arabs can be palomino. He's even registered palomino, but that would be due to the registries themselves being completely uneducated about color.

Apparently sight on what they appear, because he wouldn't genetically test for palomino. If you look at a photo from behind, he's blatantly chestnut. And he only ever SIRES palomino when bred to a cream based non-Arabian mare. All his purebred Arabian get are the same flaxen chestnut color.

He's unusually extreme, but not palomino.

ROFL, I hate most registries. It's so dumb - I believe the AQHA just made an amendment to allow high white stockings and bald faces? Do they not realize this is sabino and that they are essentially allowing some pintos and not others? It's just so ridiculous. The system is archaic and you'd think at least ONE registry would bone up on color genetics and get it right.

Phillip is a grade Arab, no doubt. I see some Quarter Horse/Quarter Pony characteristics in him (like his chest, although his build, head, and trot screams ARAB!)

Wow, how could they mistake Fire and Ice for a pali ? LOL. Yeah, the AQHA has some pretty funky rules when it comes to white markings. For a long time, they were really strict about no color above the bottom of the joint or in the middle of the face but now, they will take almost everything. There used to be some rule about 'crop-out' horses but I am not very familiar with it. I believe that it was reserved for a true freak accident of a horse; like a horse with nothing but QH parents all the way back is born with a white patch on a hip or neck, etc.
