I purchased two mares from a breeder (drove 2.5 hrs) that I had heard good things about horse-wise (my uncle also purchased one). Just so happens she was "retiring" from 40 years of breeding paints and was selling all of her "quality" broodmares, bred and in foal to a "quality" stallion. Now I am new to the pedigree part of the horse world and also the paint world. I worked at a veterinary clinic for 9 years, have participated in horse judging (only a few to learn a couple things, definitely no expert), proud owner of my first AQHA mare (still own and have made sure I would own through hardships and happy trails) that was a daughter of the Veterinarian that I worked fors broodmare. Off subject sorry I was just giving a little bit of info to my knowledge background. I am just getting into specialties with an emphasis on equine and a major in equine reproduction, also veterinary medicine with an emphasis in equine. Solely because horses have and always will be my life and I would like to have all the experience I can in taking care of them properly. My mare is my best friend literally and even through tough times can always take my worries away.
ANYWAY, turns out the lady was NOT reputable. I would definitely call her a BYB!
First mare, bay tobiano mare Q-ton Eagle lines, Chicka mount, etc... was bred to her BROTHER. Now I was unaware of this. She had told me completely different however when I obtained papers to register the foal this was what a little research showed me. Now this mare and filly I had sold as she didn't fit with me personality-wise. She is too "lazy" for my liking and is actually boarded with me (ironic)
Second mare, (sold bred and "just about due any day") is the mare I am questioning pedigree. Would you consider her quality? I am told all names in her pedigree have champions and or showing and or proven producing records? Her sire is Barlinks Triple Cash and the dam Casinos Rose. Now my resulting of the breeders being BYB. She unfortunately red-bagged, foal was definitely premature or just did not form correctly (hooves were jelly) due to placentitis and the foal was dead in-utero. Now she had to have absolutely NOT had a vet check on her at all because she lost this beautiful filly to placentitis, result of an uterine infection which the third mare, (uncles mare) also had!
Dixie, did not take because of the infection which my uncle is relieved upon, BUT was sold as "riding sound" and turned out to have a pre-existing back injury which made her not riding sound at all at least not without being in pain and breeding sound which she may not be now. Dixie's uterine infection was advanced and thankfully all three of these mares have new wonderful owners who actually care about them.
When I told the lady of all these concerns that I had found from research and veterinary professionals she offered NO help at all! No refund (not that we would have let her take them back ever!) No rebreeding (Not that it was wanted either with her having no concern on their well being at all), No I'm sorry, or anything but a "I don't know how that happened." NEVER again. Lots of vet bills later (happily paid to ensure the safety and well being of these gals) and I was just wanting an insight on pedigrees since the lady had provided FALSE information for everything else I wanted to see how "quality" their breeding actually is. Tcees mostly as she is the one I own.
Sorry so long, and thankyou for all replies.
(I DEFINITELY checked the markings on their papers to ensure they were even the horses she said they were lol)
ALSO BE AWARE WHO YOU BUY FROM! I WILL DEFINITELY CALL FOR A VET CHECK ALWAYS NOW AS IT IS WORTH THE MONEY!!
