Possibly still in foal....? help please!

Hi, one of our old shetland mares (22 this year) misscarried a foal few months ago, was weird like foetus but was like a toy pony. Anyway she seems to be getting bigger in her belly and has milk but not a huge udder....doesnt really eat alot of hay and goes out every night and in during the day and only on a small amount of hard feed....

Is it possibly for a pony to be pregnant with twins, abort and deliver one and still have one inside?! I personally didnt think so but the ever growing belly and milk are pregnancy give away's! I didnt personally put her in with the stallion someone else did. She last foaled in April 08, she's not been running with the stallion for a while now.

If you are worried, call the vet. That would be your best chance of making sure your pony is safe.

Agreed, and it would be a miracle for you to have twins. Good luck. I would personally call the vet ASAP

It is possible but very unlikely. I do have a friend whose mini aborted one fetus last year and went on to deliver a live foal later. But in all my years that's the only one I know of.

Some mares especially older mares have milk all year round even if they don't have a foal by their side
