Question Pregnant?!

We just got Dixie today and noticed that she looks really fat for only being fed a scoop of corn once a day, three times a week with a hundred acres of turnout and no hay. The man that we bought her from had her for about two months and didn't know much about her. She's 7 years old and he's never had her dewormed. I would like to know if anyone thinks she might be pregnant or is it just worms?? Her sides look a little weird, I'm sorry I couldn't get good pictures, but I'll get better ones tomorrow. When I rub her stomach on both sides, I feel a big lump that starts kind of near the front/middle of her stomach...

Probably a good idea to have your vet out to give her a general check-up and he could check her. Her sides don't look that big to me but it depends on how far along she is anyways. Could be worms, poor hay..... She looks like a nice girl :)

Have a veterinarian look at her. It's hard to tell what it could be-especially if she's pregnant but not far along. Have your vet look at her first though, even before you do and deworming of any kind, just in case she may be in foal. Very pretty girl by the way!!! :)

Thanks for your replies if you look at the picture, look where her flank is, you probably can't see it that good but the really darkly shaded part is where her flank is sunk in on both sides, I don't know if that would be a sign of pregnancy or worms bloating her out to make her look like that...the main reason I think she's pregnant is because if you feel her sides on both sides of her stomach, a big lump juts out about in the middle of both sides of her stomach...idk we're going to give her a bath today so I can get more pictures of her, hopefully I'll get some good ones so you can see what I'm talking about

I do not think you will be able to tell through pictures. Your best bet, as others have mentioned, would be to get a vet check done.

Get a vet to check her

Agreed that you can't tell by pictures. My pregnant mare didn't look pregnant until about a few weeks ago, and she's due in a few weeks. And she still barely looks pregnant ;) Another mare of mine looked like she was HEAVILY in foal, even my vet said so, and she is not.

Was she around any stallions? If not, obviously not ;) If so, have her checked by a vet.

I would agree with everyone else that a vet check is probably in order. Do you know if she has been exposed to any studs at all?

Could the lumps be something muscular??

Also my mare used to have a bit of a dropped belly because of a badly saddle causing pain in her back, which caused muscular atrophy.. causing her to not have a good 'posture' .. the dropped belly... which made her look pregnant... and she wasn't. A lot of people used to ask me if she was preggers lol

Although in your case worms sounds very possible?? Definitely get her vet checked as everyone else has always said, even if she's fine, I guess it's always a good idea to get a check-up, especially if they're new to your place

If she is though you got a good 2 for 1 deal!! Haha :) good luck wit her she looks nice x
