Princess possibly pregnant...

I got a 11.2 hand grade POA pony from an auction in April. Went out yesterday and noticed some very large differences in her. She is current on worming, and feed is grass hay 3 times a day.

The vet is coming next Friday, but until then, anyone want to guess if she is or isnt pregnant? I think yes. Felt her belly while she was eating and lots of movement. Could be mistaken though...

Here is is in April...

If she is, I am a little concerned... no idea when she was bred, what she was bred to, and I doubt any prenatal care was given. Our vet says she may be too small for a palp, so will have to do blood or u/s... we'll know next Friday...

Pregnancy is darn sure a possiblity though she could just be getting fat LOL.

If she is preggo, there isn't much you can do to change it at this point. Just make sure that you are keeping her healthy and doing all you need to do. Since she appeared to be in pretty darn good health when you got her, I'll bet the (possible) baby is just fine.

I thought that too - getting fat - a little too much of the good life over here . Her flanks are really full and her belly - well, getting bigger each week! I was talking to her previous owner at the auction and he mentioned that she had two foals previously from a black shetland stud he owned, so perhaps that is a possible daddy?

Regardless, a foal would be fun, but I was actually measuring her to sell her when I noticed the weight gain as she isn't the right fit for my 5 year old - she's a great leadline pony but would rather have a broke riding pony for Wren to learn on... and Wren getting very attached as Princess is a great pony on the ground and the leadline.

If she's to foal we'll keep her and make sure her baby gets a good start - Guess we will know for sure next Friday!

Yeah, sometimes she looks fat to me, other times she looks pregnant. Figure I better be sure and since coggins were getting done next week anyway - might as well know one way or the other...

I have an offer on her, and so I hope she's not. She isn't breeding quality to me, although if she is we'll make sure she and her baby are taken care of. I told the prospective buyer if she is pregnant we'll keep her at least til weaning.

I'll update next week...
