Reading Brands

People: Brighteyes, why did you post this in the breeding forum?

Me: Because I figured that horse breeders would know something about brands.

Anyway, I was wondering what a brand on my horse meant. (She was a rescue so I really don't know anything about her family history-- All I know is that she was a fjord brood mare.)

Anyway, the first strange thing is that she is marked with an "02." She wasn't born in 2002, I'll give ya that. The part I really want to figure out though is the "bar arrow" mark.

Just as I just said, it is a small horizontal bar on her right hip. About five inches below it is a downwards facing arrow. It's a freeze brand, by the way.

Anyone have any idea?

~Thanks so much!
