Rescue mare in foal and have questions

Hello,
I am new to the site. I have a question regarding a mare I rescued 2 months ago. She was seized in a large animal hoarding case where all 90 animals were in various stages of neglect. Most all of the mares were in foal. I decided to adopt one of the mares and she is due to foal soon. My question is this; Since she was not recieving sufficient nutrients during the course of her pregnancy, what risks might there be to the foal? Does anyone have experience with this type of thing? She is doing great now. Has gained a lot of weight. The foal moves around a lot. But can't help but wonder if there are any risks associated with early malnutrition.

The greatest nutritional strain on a pregnant mare is the last trimester. Glad you were willing to adopt this mare and welcome to the forum

What sunny said about the last trimester is true. Sounds as if you caught them just in time.
Mares in the wild time their foaling when the grass is green and lush.

Thanks! I won't worry too much then because since she has been with me she has gained a substantial amount of weight and her coat has become glossy too. She gets good groceries here so I hope I got her in time for the foal to be born healthy.
