Sage is my 11 year old palomino. A family friend was dissolving his AQHA ranch and told us we could pick as many colts and mares as we wanted. We ended up with Sage because my husband really wanted the 5 month old filly still at her side. So it was a package deal. We were told that Sage was not bred back, however the stud was allowed to be in the pasture with all the mares. We brought her home in April and by June she had not had a heat cycle and her belly was getting bigger and bigger. We wormed her just to make sure, but no change. We finally accepted the fact she was pregnant when we saw her belly moving and I actually felt fetal movement (I've been an OB nurse for 15 years, I know it's not exactly the same but it's close...lol).
We are guessing she will foal sometime between September and November, because she had Cactus October 31, 2012.
Here are some pics. Remember she is not broke and we are the only people she has ever been around. She can be quite moody, but has never bit, kicked or tried to hurt us. She lets us groom her and loves, loves, loves for us to rub her legs. (We couldn't touch her 3 months ago).
Sage and Cactus the week we brought them home.
Her favorite thing is to be groomed under the big oak tree!
Thanks, and I know the name is deceiving, but Cactus is a filly, and good luck prying her away from my husband! I did have pics of him, if I can't find them, I see him almost every day I'll take some more. He is a grandson of Colonel Freckles. Posted via Mobile Device
Out of 4 horses Sage is our only pally, the others are sorrels, so I am really hoping we get a little palomino. I'm not going to hold my breath tho, I've seen all of the foals from this stud this year and they are sorrel.
Here is Cactus, she is out of the same dam and stud.
