Sereno gets to have some fun.

Geeezzz. I just joined today and have been reading... reading.... reading. I've also filled in my profile. I've asked questions and did my best to answer a few.

YOU are a lively group!

I have had the pleasure and honor of having several known horse vets and trainers visit us. Some very remarkable stories and a wonderful opportunity to learn.

Our mare is in season and we have and respected Veto staying with us now and after consulting, he will witness the breeding of our mare with our stallion. He and his wife, a vet also, will be back in the spring to help. I've been around horses but have never been in on the breeding side.

Sometimes it's good to have good friends. I also look for your help and to help you.

OH... horses and animals and people have been doing this for how long? LOL.

First coupling went very well this morning! Camera person forgot to use the camera.

Sereno is now in his fenced pasture running the line watching Cera 75 feet away in her fenced pasture and watching him.

Ahhhh. True Love!

We will try a second coupling this afternoon or in tomorrow morning.

Question? Are vids and/or photos about this allowed?

I've never seen videos of actual breedings myself, and because this is a PG rated forum, my guess would be no. However, I'd wait until a mod told you for sure, since some pictures (such as health problems with udders, sheaths, etc) are allowed, I'm really not sure.

Read before viewing video please!

I sent my breeding video for the MOD's to review. I have permission to post it as a learning and teaching tool. Some points should be noted first.

Why we want a foal from these two!

1. Sereno has an excellent lineage and most everyone knows it. BUT due to a rather unusual situation we can not register him. Owner of the known stable died and the manager went into business for himself. Sereno is a great informal show horse. He is smart and learns. He is the smoothest riding horse that I've ever been on. His size and conformation is almost perfect Paso Fino. His temperament is really good though he does have some stallion moments and that's just fine with me. (his rearing in the video with me walking toward him is ok.) I work with, train, ride, play with Sereno everyday and we have a strong bond with respect and trust.

2. After two years of searching for a mare, we found Hechicera (Sorceress). Though color was important, she was perfect. The mare has a similar problem and comes from one of the best stables in the Dominican Republic but no one witnessed the mating or made the proper notes. I personally know the owner that I bought her from, 6 months ago, and his reputation. She has had two foals before I bought her that sold very quickly. She was field kept so we have had to take some time getting her better acclimated to being around people. She has a smooth gate and ride. She has been quick to learn and has adjusted. She has most of the traits that we were looking for and a good match for Sereno.

3. We have the time, room, land, help and money to do this. We are not doing this for money. BUT, we know that the two other foals she had sold for $3k at 9 months old.

4.Though our stallion Sereno is not allowed in with the the gelding or mare, they are barn mates, can see each other in there stalls and from their own pastures, are groomed together and ridden together. So they "kinda" know each other.

OK. About the video. It's blurry and the sound is terrible. Perhaps for the better. This is the second mating of these two. Yesterday we let them graze close by while on leads letting them get closer and have some interaction. We could, and did, pull them apart a couple of times. We wanted to be SURE that Hechicera was ready and willing. Sereno was a gentleman nuzzling and a little gentle nipping and all went very smoothly that morning. The video is of the second mating was taken that evening. Both wanting to get to their grain so the expected routine had been changed. I did pull Sereno off of Hechicera since he was not ready and I didn't want him hurting her or himself. When he was ready they got it done.

We had another coupling this morning that went about the same as this video.

We opted to do this using just our leads because we know our horses and they know us; and we had others near if needed. This MAY NOT be the way to breed your horses. Some need a lot of restraining and to be tied down. Some stallions can be brutal and need boots or socks on the front hooves and some muzzled so they don't bite hard and deep. Some mares will kick the heck out of a stallion.

I'll let others with more experience comment and teach. I'll also start reading and entering in other foaling threads.

Thank you.

I have limited experience with breeding, only stallion I have handled during breeding would actually mount a mare on the side and move his hind end over for the actual deed. He learned to breed in a pasture setting and learned it was safer from kicks to not just jump up on the mare's butt. Each stallion has his own style to get things done ;)

Someone just asked if I had Paso Finos? Well....... heck! It don't take much for me to talk and show.

I think that I posted this somewhere else and don't remember where:
This was a fun show and Sereno had already been around the course 3 times so he is lacking a lot of energy. But this is part of the reason we want a foal from this boy.

Now aren't you sorry that you asked.

What kind of class is that? I've never seen one where they go around and around and then weave in and out of a few cones, then around and around, then weave some barrels, then back up and go up and down the centerline a couple of times. Very odd.
