Question Shy mare?

I have just bought a paint bred mare that I was hoping to breed from. When I first put her in the paddock with my other mares she started to "wink". So I left her for approx 21 days and then took her around to the stud. She was at the stud for 38 days and didn't even begin to show she was on heat. There were 4 stallions at the stud in close proximity to the mare. She was presented to a stallion each day. I even bought a "PG" injection for her from the vet which did absolutely nothing at all. She had this injection while at the stud. I have since bought her home and this morning I noticed in the paddock with my other mares that she is showing some signs of being on heat ie. Winking, squirting and squealing. When I took her out of the paddock to monitor her more closely - nothing again. Can anyone tell me what is happening here?

Was she ever ultrasounded to see where she was at in her cycle before she was given the shot?

PG shot

No I didn't give her an ultrasound. The vet didn't say when was the best time to give it to her and I thought they worked at any time during the cycle to bring her on. The mare did have a bit of a cough when she was at the stud - would this stop her cycling at all?

I don't honestly know.

Thanks for the info on reproduction. I am in Australia near Sydney. I will check with the Stud tonight to see what his thoughts are.

There are probably some really good repro vets around Sydney area, try in areas near racecourses to be honest. A good repro vet will save you a lot of money if she is proving difficult to breed.
