Still no baby...but a bulge?

So my grandpa has a broodmare that was supposed to have foaled in late June...we still have no baby, but she definitely looks pregnant. She was AI'd, and I'm pretty sure she was preg checked before we brought her home from the breeder. Now, I understand we should have probably got her checked out sooner, but she is my grandpa's horse, I try not to butt in too much, and I have almost zero time to take care of his horses in addition to my own.

She is headed to the vet this Friday to get checked out, because she definitely looks pregnant. The vet said if the baby had died, she would've been getting sick by now, and she is showing no symptoms of not feeling well.

However, this past week we have noticed a bump that has developed right in front of her teats on her stomach. It is a small bulge, and we have no idea what it is. Like I said, she will be going to the vet Fri, but just seeing if you guys had any ideas or experience? I'm assuming this bulge has to be related to her pregnancy somehow, but who knows?? (I forgot to take a pic of it when I was out there yesterday...)

This is a pic of her from about 3 months ago, she looked pregnant even then to me!

Heck, I know a gelding who had a stomach bigger than that. Lol. We all seriously thought he was a pregnant mare when we first met him...until he dropped to pee.

OP, is the mare bagging up at all? Can you feel movement in her belly?

This was a few months ago, so she is bigger. And no, not even bagging up at all. But the bulge worries me - it is not normal looking. Yeah, she could just be pretty fat, just confused because I thought she was preg checked before she left the breeders! My grandpa is getting Alzheimers so forgets to ask any details - I have tried to get a hold of the breeder several times with no luck to ask if she was indeed preg checked. I guess we will see Friday! This late, I'm pretty convinced she's just getting fat...

Sounds to me like you what are describing could be her milk glands starting to fill.

2 years ago I bought my mare Krystal and another mare from the same breeder.
During the PPE the vet, I, and the former owner all concluded she was in foal and due very soon. I purchased her and left her to foal out yet took the other mare I knew was pregnant.
2 weeks later I picked Kyrstal up and took her to the vet to be palpated.
She was open.
On april 30 this year she had a nice black filly. She still looks 11 months pregnant.
The only way to tell is to have her palpated by a vet.
Good luck . Shalom

My mare never got giant until the last month. Three months ago my mare looked like this. Some mares have been known to hold that colt in a bit longer than they're supposed to. Do you know her exact date bred, meaning her last day she was with the stud?

We don't know the last date she was bred - like I said, my grandpa forgets to ask details, and I have tried to get a hold of the breeder several times with no luck. The other mare of ours he bred for us foaled May 19th, but this mare may have been bred in the next cycle? I'm very frustrated with the breeders lack of help at this point, but we will no for sure when she is preg checked Friday. Oh, and I spoke with the vet about the bulge, and he thinks it may be from gnats/flies that are bothering her navel area. He said he sees that issue pretty frequently this time of year.
