Tiara's Foaling Thread~Due May 22nd~ (Pic Heavy!)

Hello!

I haven't been doing a lot around here lately, but I figured I would start a foaling thread for my mare, Tiara. She is a 13 year old registered Haflinger mare, and she this will be her 4th foal, though our first. She is bred to Wild Dreams, also a registered Haflinger.

Tiara was a sort of rescue. She wasn't is terrible shape when we got her, but thank god we got her when we did. We later heard that several horses that were at the same farm died from neglect.

Anyways, the summer after we got her, we had a scare with a false pregnancy. We were very anxious as we we not prepared at all for a foal. But then, when the vet told us it was a false pregnancy, we found we had actually really been looking forward to it. So, the next spring we found a nice stud and had her bred, this time on purpose.

She was at the stallion's June 7th to
June 22nd, 2012, but didn't come into heat until June 14th. So, she is due anywhere from May 14-22, 2013.

This is our first foal. My mom worked at some breeding stables and training farms when she was younger, but we have never foaled a mare of our own before. So, it'll be exciting! We've got everything ready, a nice big foaling stall, a complete foaling kit, ect. We are also planning on inprinting the little guy, so we have that kit ready too. Oh, and my new room in the barn is all set. I do NOT want to miss this!

Alright, I know pictures are required, so here you all go:

Lesson in July, so just about 1 month.

And a fun show, same month.

Cross Country Schooling October 2012, 4 months.
(She hated this jump)

(You can see her teat in this one!)

First Snowfall, mid-December, 6 months.

Merry Christmas! 61/2 months.

More later....

Pretty mare. Well cared for as well.

She appears to have some edema (swelling) infront of her udder. Is she bagging up yet?

Do you have pictures of the sire?

Oh, and here's the stallion, Wild Dream!

I know it's not the best picture, but the owners are Amish/Mennonite, so they don't have a website.

He is an AHR inspected and approved breeding stallion. His dam was the 1996 Jr. National Champion Mare, the highest rated filly at the Tirolean Select Filly Sale, and set a record for the highest selling Haflinger filly ever, at 308,000 shillings! He has a good family showing history on both sides.

I cannot wait to see this baby!

7:30pm Report

Alright, so the report from about 7:30 pm, this evening. Her udder hardened about a week ago, and you can feel milk veins. Her teats are firm, and 2 days ago, there was a translucent yellowish liquid in them, and a little crumbly yellow stuff on the tips. I did notice a larger swelling right behind the girth area 2 days ago as well. No noticeable relaxation of dock muscles. Her lady bits do appear a bit more swollen then usual, also noticed about 2 days ago. I am keeping a very careful log of all this, started on the 23rd.

Well cared for is an understatement.
