Unplanned Foal

We had bought a mare in September who was underweight and unhealthy looking. Well she gained weight but her "wormy" belly never went away and her top line never filled in. In the past few weeks her stomach dropped alot, so the vet came out today and palulated her. She's bred. So in the next few months we will have a foal that no one planned for. She's a barrel horse and is my step dads, so he can't run her this year. He has to ride another one. There is at least some good news, the baby will be registered. We got ahold of the owners who had her before the middle guy we bought her from. He owns the stud, had her running with it when she wasn't in season :/ that obviously didnt work. But baby will be a registered quarter horse. I'll have to post pictures of Legs later she's a 12 yr old Appendix mare. Thought I'd share our surprise.

Thanks. I wish we had known sooner. The guy we got her from failed to ever mention she had ever been out with a stud so it was never thought of.

Bummer she's out for the season and that you weren't told. Glad she's getting the care she needs and will be looking forward to meeting your little oops :)

It will most likely be sold. We planned to bred a mare this year which idk if that will happen now since we will need her. There's already a few people saying they want the foal.
