What do you guys think?

Ok so me and my mom were sitting out in the pasture watching the horses eat, and we noticed Carmen, my mom's mare looks a little big in the belly. Now YES sparta was left out in the field for 2 maybe 3 weeks at the most with one testicle dropped. But, IF and big big IF she was pregnant by him she would not be showing this early.. no the only other explanation for this is a TWH gelding awhile back that the people we share a pasture with had, he was riding the females and I think he was a cryptochid, so if in some way shape or form he was only "half" gelded could he have gotten her pregnant. I can't remember when we finally sold him, but the last picture I can find of him was dated 5/18/2010.. and this is him

And here are the pictures of Carmen

And her udder, which never looks like this.

What do you guys think? I'm hoping and praying she's not. I don't want another foal. And I don't want the risk of my mom loosing her horse.

It looks to me like you feed her a boat load of grain if what I see in that bucket is any sign of how much you feed her.

Nope that's only 4 quarts, but we soak it because of a choke hazard with her.

You could probably take 3/4 of that and feed it to the skinny horses.

When were her feet done last? Her toes look long.

A horse with a retained testicle is not able to produce viable sperm to impregnate mares. It is too hot for the sperm when the testicle is stuck up inside the body.

The only way to know if she is pregnant is to call the vet and have the vet check her.

Honestly, she looks fat and out of shape more than anything.

Plus, why do people always post teat pictures? Unless the mare is close to foaling and the bag is filling up, there's nothing about a pair of teats that's going to tell me whether or not a mare is pregnant.

I was wondering the same thing, SR, about the teat photo. I was thinking they looked just like the teats of my two mares, which I know for a fact are not pregnant.

This. If the gelding was crypto and gelded with a retained testicle left behind, the retained testicle can not produce viable sperm.

The mare doesn't look pregnant to me, just fat in the belly and out of shape. Swelling, fluid build up, or even fat in the udders is common in overweight, under exercised mares, and that's likely what you are seeing in her udder changes.

I agree that you should have a vet check, I think that should always be the first action if you are remotely suspicious.

Lol SR sorry, just naturally after snowflakes pregnancy thread
And she IS out of shape, but glad to know you guys think she's just fat, my mom has been on a freak out thinking her horse is to skinny especially after all of the AC visits. *rolls eyes*

and that's good to know Always I was always under the impression that they could reproduce but only on a rare occasion.

Would it be better to soak it and then distribute it?
And yes, it's time to do her feet now. Mom's suposed to be making an appointment with the farrier next week when she gets paid.
As well as the skinny horses and doing alot better, the old red horse is looking GREAT in weight. I still think snowflake has something medically wrong with her. Snowflake gets almost 8 quarts in feed, unsoaked and she still isn't where she should be.
