What do you think of this cross?

Let me first start by saying that neither of these horses belong to me. The foal however might. The mare is owned by my aunt and the stud is owned by a private party of no relation. Just curious what you all think of this match. Stud is a Chincoteague and the Mare (black) is a Quarter Pony. Both stand appx 13hh. Have great temperments and go well under saddle-other than that...? Was not my decision to breed but had no way to prevent it. The Foal will remain my aunt's and is not intended to ever be sold or bred in the future (yay!)

Anyway, here is Sweet Pea (before she was in foal). She is due to foal in Aug.

Here is the stud she was bred to. This is the only picture I have of him:

I think the stud is real cute, so is the mare! It'll be a cute cross, and not to awkward because both parents are the same height. Was daddy wild at one point in time?
I'll be looking forward to see baby pics! Wonder what it will look like? What do you hope it looks like?

Yearling
Would I have bred them? Not in a million years. Is it going to be a cute baby? Most definitely. Other than that there's not much else to say. The baby will probably not win any conformation awards or achieve world renown but that was never the idea behind the breeding. So my only request is for pictures when it comes!!

I really like that mare. The only thing I don't like about her is her face is kind of long. The stallion is cute but I can't tell much from the picture, like whether they would compliment each other well.

I think the baby should be adorable. Wonder what color they'd throw?

Well... I don't really like the conformation on the mare at all. Can't really tell much from the stud, aside from the fact that he's got a cute face.
It's not something I would ever breed for. I don't really think that the mare is breed worthy.

Necessary? No. Cute? Most likely! Loved? For sure!

Yes he was. Swam over as a yearling I think.

It really doesn't matter what it looks like, all I want is for SP & the foal to make it through delivery safely. Oh, and I'm hoping it's a colt... so we can have a GELDING!!

Yeah, I agree. I tried explaining it to no avail. She doesn't get the whole "Mare/Stud should proove themselves before being allowed to breed" not to mention conformation. I guess we got one out of three, which is disposition at least.

I really like this mare a lot as far as handling and ridding. We use her for all of the new riders and kids that come up and visit (My aunt and I are neighbors). She is a great little trail pony and that is all my aunt wants the foal to be.

*sigh*

LOL! My husband (very non-horsey other than feeding carrots) asked if we could breed my mare once he found out SP had been bred. My answer? "NOT IN A MILLION YEARS!!!"

All babies are cute... too bad they don't stay babies very long!

Will share pics for sure.

Interesting. Actually, I like the mare. I think her head looks large in the second picture due to the camera angle. In the first picture she looks in proportion. Her shoulder is a little steep but not bad. There isn't much to say about the stud due to the pictures.

A good pony is still bringing more money then a good grade horse so, if your aunt wanted to sell the foal, there may be more of a market for it then if it was full size.
