What do the ratings of horses mean like F2 and F3?

In some registries that are developing from/still allow breeding out to varied bloodlines, F2 and F3 and etc. are used to denote how many generations are bred within the studbook. Appaloosa horse Club of Canada is an example-- here is a link to their page explaing their F levels--

F stands for Filial.

An F1 is half and half of 2 parent breeds or varieties.

An F2 would be the offspring of an F1, bred to one of the breeds/varieties in the original cross, and generally its to a close relative.

F3, F4 etc continues.
