Since I've gotten her, it was obvious my mare had was a winner that had landed in the wrong hands. "Love" is a Parker Ranch born mare, registered and is by of Skippity Do Doc( out of Doc Tom Tucker) and Delsas Beauty( a full sister to Dyketown, may I add Delsas Beauty Quarter Horse ) Her confirmation is quite good, and she's got a delicate face. Though this isn't what makes me want to continue her bloodline. It's her competitive, intelligent personality. It's hard to explain really, but when you get to know her, and ride other horses, she really has this "feel" of a professional. (She thinks she's a champion already, of course)
Now the issue of breeding her fertility/lameness. My parents bought her for me as a first horse, fair priced at 5,500 ten or so years ago if we weren't so foolish back then not a to get a vet check. Of course, we only found out later that she had a lame back leg, that no vet's been quite able to figure out the source of, from being cast in her stall a year before. She 's very tough and proud, and doesn't show her any pain if she's got any, and only has ever had a funny canter to show for the injury. Since then, only in her 22nd year have I developed the skill and knowledge to recognize her ability. She was quite good to me as a novice, but gives me, and other experienced riders a test haha. Even with her leg, she's faster than my tb gelding by far, and can turn ridiculously swiftly. If I practiced reining more than than one clinic, I might have stayed on to spin her the whole way around.^^; Still, she does get stiff with a lot of workout, and I often have to give her linament, and used to bute when it was more serious. The vet had given her a cautious all clear for breeding and fertility at 16, but doubted she'd ever had a foal, so it would be harder for her at that and now this age, and the possibility of her stiffening up or getting stuck in the leg during birth was out there.
Anyway, I'm basically asking for opinions on wether or not it'd be worth trying to breed her, given the possibilities, and if it'd be a shame given her bloodlines and ability. If only I had the money and resources to freeze her eggs ;/..I'm also curious if anyone is familiar with her bloodlines at all. Since she's l hawaii born, I'm sure such might not be possible but oh well. Also, I'm not looking for opinions based on my experience, as I'm aware I'm not a breeder. I fully intend to keep the foal, should I decide to breed my mare, and work with someone with more experience than myself, because Love is quite precious to me.
