    I honestly couldn't care if he was brindled or not -- I just plain like him!

    I think you're right, and it is just part of the 'primitive marking' thing. We call those dun markings on the face 'cobwebbing' out here. My red dun has a little of it, but you can't see it in his winter coat at all.
