I agree with speedy and smrobs. I've always called the lighter red/orange color "sorrel" and the deeper red/orange/brown "chesnut". For example:
Darlin we called "Sorrel"
And Mack we call "Chesnut"

English=chestnut, western=sorrel. Sam color. See Merlin on my horses page, he is a chestnut/sorrel.
