    Welsh section A pony

The Section A Welsh Pony is also known as the Welsh Mountain pony. Both the Section A and Section B ponies are more refined than those in Section C and D. They are characterized from the cob types by a large eye, small head (often with a dished face from the Arabian influence), high set on tail, and refined leg conformation, but retaining good bone and correctness.

The Welsh Mountain Pony (Section A) may not exceed 12.2 hands (50 inches, 127 cm) in the US or 12 hands (48 inches, 122 cm) in the United Kingdom.
entirely possible she's a purebred Welsh Section A

Just a thought.... with the high stepping, ground covering trot, could she possibly have some Icelandic in there? She's a cutie and lucky you for finding a really "good" pony.

She's 11.2 hands, she's light in the legs but kind of a heavier body - 'course, she's a little tubby as well. I'll have to get a better picture of her head - despite what these pictures look like, she really does have a very small, short head and big, pretty eyes - I assumed that was a shetland influence but who knows? Auction horses - I hate not knowing the history!

I would be really surprised if she was - Icelandics are very rare in this area, (in fact I've only ever seen them in breed parades) and I doubt if someone had one they would have sent it off to the shipshewana auction. Like I mentioned, the little girl that I bought her from thought she was a haflinger

I do know how lucky I am to have such a great little pony - whatever she is! Thanks :)

I would say 3/4 welsh, and a dash of something else- here in uk I would say newforest. ( the only thing about her that doesnt look pure welsh is her head, which isnt really fine enough for a welsh) . . I don't think there is any shetland in her - she is just not chunky enough.

In the US Shetlands are very refined now.

She looks like a haflinger colour wise (where the confusion may be.)
I think she is a Highland pony

E.g. (tryed to get one simular colour)
