    Any ApHC members?

So I was told today that the ApHC might be able to figure out for me if my horse is registered if I send them super detailed pictures of his markings and of him. She said she didnt know how true this was but she's had it done before.

So I don't know if anyone who is a member of the ApHC could help me out any? I know the answer is probably not....but it doesnt hurt to try!

Im also super curious because my trainer thinks Moose is heck of alot younger then the vet suspected him to be...(like the vet said his teeth say he is somewhere between 5/7..my trainer says she thinks he is just a baby)

So if anyone could help me out or give me a lead or somehthing that would be appericiated greatly!!

I doubt anything can be done with just pictures...no one is going to through thousands upon thousands of pictures, plus any pictures on file will not be that detailed.

I think your friend is mistaken - maybe the people at least had a name to go by on their horse...

They might be able to do something with dna? They have every animal that is bred DNA on file. Call the 1800 number and ask

I doubt ApHC would do that - it would be prohibitively expensive. With a parentage check they only have 3 DNA's to evaluate, but to try to cross reference one sample with thousands would likely take computer work beyond their capability. For enough money it could probably be done, but I suspect they would have to contract it out. I could be wrong, so it might be worth a call to ask, but I doubt it. If Laura reads this thread she will know, but I haven't seen her on for quite a while.

Ghostwind, I keep having these visions of a big room with a lot of tables, with 4 or 5 people at each table trying to compare spots on thousands of leopards to get some matches...oh, and they have ambulances with stretchers and straightjackets just outside the back door to haul off the clerks as they go wacko...

Unfortunately I doubt the ApHC will help you to find out if your horse is registered.

Also, i've known vets who guess a horse's age to be WAY off from the actual age. That seems pretty common in my experience. I've had my gelding "aged" at 11 and 16. He'll be 17 next month. You never know. Same with another horse I owned who was 13 at the time, the vet said he was 8-9 and the vet after that aged him at 13-14. Unless you have documentation of the horse's birth information, it's always a guess.

Post a side shot of him from each side and I'll give you an edumacated guess by his coloring out - keeping in mind they don't all color out the same chronologically...

Oh, I remember him now...the Appy built for endurance.

I think your vet probably has the right range of 5 - 7. He is far too colored out to be 2 or 3, and his mane and tail tell me he probably isn't 7, but more likely in the 5 range. If I had to guess I would guess about 5 in that picture...maybe even coming 5...
