APHA does not have an appendix registry. The horse is only registered as Solid Paint-Bred.

Appendix isn't a breed, not really, which is probably why there is the confusion. There is no "Appendix" breed registry or anything. These horses are registered with the Quarter Horse Association so if anything I'd refer to them as Appendix Quarter Horses. The word "appendix" literally means basically an "additional section/list". So an appendix is a horse that isn't eligible for the regular registry, but can be registered on the "appendix" list. In the case of QHs only the progeny of registered Thoroughbreds crossed with registered Quarter Horses can make the appendix list (to my knowledge). There will be different rules for these horses, and they may be able to be bred back to QHs, or perhaps not.

Many breed registries have this. Like if you cross a Paint and a TB and get a solid foal its called "Paint Bred" and it has it's own classification. The Australian Stock Horses Society has registrable "First Cross" horses.

Without being registered with these associations the horse is not a Paintbred or Appendix, its just a QHxTB or PaintxTB etc.

Thanks y'all. My girl's papers do say solid paint bred so I guess that is what she is (with an Appendix QH sire) even though she does look almost identical to Kmk's horse here on this thread except for one short white half pastern in the back. Kmk, again apologies for my own questions. I hope this helped you as well. Whatever our horses are, I think they are gorgeous. ;)

??? An appendix qh bred to qhand the offspring could not be registered as qh ? That just does not sound correct.

In Australia I think it goes like this.

If you breed an Appendix (A) with a full QH (Q) you get an A1 (Appendix first cross?)
If you breed an A1 with a Q you get an A2 (Appendix Second Cross?)
If you breed an A2 with a Q you get an A3 (Appendix Third Cross?)
Then finally, if you breed an A3 to a Q the progeny is a Q.

If you breed an A with an A you get an A, and if you breed it with an A1, A2 or A3 you still get an A.
