oooooooook so. Its been a long time since I have been on here. Those who know me know I only know standardbreds. (that line included the word "know" too many times!) I've been breeding, raising, breaking, and racing standardbreds for a while now. Well my broodmare is now stabled at a new place (has been there for a few months) and the barn owner does trail rides on weekends. She wanted me to lead them and has offered to pay me to do so... great. I like it! BUT my mare will be having her foal in march/april, so I wont be able to use her.
She contacted me today that she bought a mini for a 2 mini hitch but that it came with an appendix. She thought this horse would be everything I wanted. I was going to go to an auction and get an old standardbred to ride, and I already had in my mind what I wanted, and she said this horse had it all:
1-its a gelding, I preferred a gelding so I didnt have to deal with seasons
2- he's BIG, around 16-17hh (not sure exactly because he has not been measured)
3- he's stocky, I love a big stocky horse
4- he's chestnut with a star.... my fav color!
5- he's 13 and has been well ridden and clean legged
I wanted something dependable and calm. Something older that I didnt have to worry about and was trusty for trails. He even came with his saddle and bridle and everything.... sooooo
Heres the thing... I know NOTHING about appendix horses! What the heck makes them an appendix? Isnt it something about having TB in their bloodlines or something?? Are they hot? Are there certain things they are meant to do well? I have no clue here... any ANY AAANNNYYY info is welcome! Im going to see him tomorrow and look him over. I will take pics and post them when I get back.
Oh... his name is Murphy is guess
kind of a silly name.... but what the heck I have a big ol fat broodmare named Slim N Fit!
