After a lifetime of being uninterested in the breed, I read its history--how the full-bloods were exterminated by the US cavalry, because the cavalry horses couldn't compete with them! Horrible decision:
why not rejoice at finding such a breed, & foster it, since you caught the Indians anyway, via their error in believing they'd made it safely to Canada, thus the Appies came into your possession!? Then, too, I understood the difference between so many mediocre mixed-bloods I'd seen, & the tough-as-nails, do-it-all full-bloods of yore: it's not the Appy that makes them meiocre, it's the admixture!
So I'm an instant foundation Appy snob!
