Question The 'Bar' Family?

I recently got a paint horse gelding(Sailor). The owner told us that his sire was registered but not his dam. I couldn't remeber what she said his sire's name was but I do remeber that it had 'Jay Bar'. I also remeber that she told me that Sailor was in the 'Bar' family and had those bloodlines.

Does anyone know what the Bar family is? I don't think I've heard of them.

There isn't a "bar family". For the most part the term comes from Three Bars, but there are so many different lines now with Three Bars in the ancestry and it has become so diluted that "bar" in the name doesn't mean anything - unless of course a horse is line bred to one of the bajillion horses with "bar" in their name...

I knew someone who had a horse with the Jay Bar (or perhaps it was Jae Bar) prefix/sufix, more than likely it's either the name of the ranch, or horses in the pedigree.

Jae bars are quarter horse ( I worked for these people when I lived in Nebraska), Jay Bars is paint. These are cow bred horses that your going to see most often in the cutting/ reining world. you might even see a few doing barrels.

Doc Bar is a grandson of three bars as well. I believe this is where a LOT of the bar bloodlines comes from. Doc Bar is a famous sire. All the horses i have with QH in them have Bar in their bloodlines. One goes back to Doc Bar and the other goes back to sugar bars and three bars.
