So we got this mare in Savannah, Tennessee from a man who wanted to originally breed paints but it he didn't end up having time for it. She was 2 when he got her from her original breeder but turned 3 before we purchased her in 2015. She's now 4 years old and stands at roughly 14.3 but hit a growth spurt.
Having all that said, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what mix of breeds she may be. Someone said she may have some cob but I really don't know. She's built like a draft horse so it would make sense. Below are some photos of her.
This guy is foundation QH and quite big boned. He needs a draft sized saddle and halter. (he was just coming out of a year and a half of medically recommended no riding when the pic was taken, so not legged up)
I'm not sure exactly what she is, other than gorgeous!
Looks like some kind of stock horse. That one picture of her trotting, she really reminds me of the mustangs who have a sort of baroque look to them. I love the old school baroque horses and anything that looks like them!
She looks like a paint, to me. I'm not being sarcastic, either. Paints come in all shapes and sizes. She looks to be more foundation bred, as Reining said. My grandma's neighbor had a foundation paint mare that I used to ride who was built like a tank. She was about 14.3hh.
Could be foundation bred. Problem is you will probably never know. I have one grade horse that, after years of guessing, I still have no idea what he is...he's just a good boy whatever breed.
I could try a DNA test on her when I do my colt to see if she's been registered. I thought I did hear she may have been with her original breeder. Doesn't hurt to give it a try either way.
Most Paints have a a fairly large percent of QH breeding. I don't see draft. APHA doesn't have the regulations AQHA does so the likelihood of them having her DNA on file is slim. It is worth a shot though. I don't see draft at all. Nice stocky mare and would think there are some foundation lines in her breeding.
I agree, could be foundation breeding but with that neck tying in so low, and being rather short and thick< i do wonder about some draft influence
Petty horse, with that neck being the only thing I really don't like
He does look a lot like a warmblood!
She belongs to my mom so I don't know if she wants to register her or not.
