ex racer thoroughbred

Hi all!

I have a question about thoroughbred racehorses.

I ve just bought a lovely thoroughbred and it seems he is registered although I can't find him on www.racingpost.com - his mum and dad are on there but I can't find any record of him anywhere at all online

His pasport says that he is in the stud book reference

My question is does this mean that he's an ex racehorse??

The previous owner have no record of his background as he's been passed from dealer to dealer so I've got no chance of finding out any background on him :( online was my only hope but that hasnt brought anything back either.

He's only 7 now so I assume if he was raced he wouldnt have been retired that long ago??

Any info you could give me would be great!

Thanks

All thoroughbreds (in America atleast) that are put on the track have a tattoo on the inside of their upper lip. If he has one he was probaby raced, if not, he wasn't :]

Hi Brooklyn07, :)

Here in the UK we don't have tatoo's on the lip. If you can't find your horses name on the Racingpost website, it is more than likely that he has never been raced. As they keep records of all races, and horses that were entered.

He was probably bred for racing, like his parents, but maybe didnt make it on to the track. If he has raced, it would normally have stamps in his passport from the Jockey club etc. You'd also be able to tell with the previous owners, if any of them were racing yards.
Hope this helps.

Yeah he definitely doesnt have any sort of tattoo as we are in the UK and theres nothing filled in his passport only his flu jab dates! So i'm guessing he was never raced then.

The last few owners were dealers yards also, not racing yards, which is why i'm finding it so difficult to find information as dealers rarely ask about background information when buying horses from sales (well in my experience anyway!)
