My favourite breeds of horses to ride are Quater horses and Welshies. QH- i love the way they hold themselves. I particually love this QH I ride at my riding center. He is really forward moving and has a great trot.
Welsh- Are just fun to ride.

Love clydesdales as well. They're gorgeous.

Arabians are my first love.

As for riding, after I bought my first mare, a grade Quarter Horse, I've been a QH girl. I just love their sensible mind and versatility.
I've only ridden one of these each, but I've also enjoyed a Belgian/Thoroughbred cross for just being one of the best minded, athletic and talented horses and a Connemara/Hanoverian for being the perfect size for me and quite talented as well. I would love to ride more of these crosses and see if others are similar.

I don't know if I could pick just one. There are a lot of breeds with completely different characteristics that I like. It depends on my mood what breed of horse I feel like riding. If I'm in a mellow mood, I want the QH. If Im in a mood to just get on and go I want the TB. If Im in more of a technical mood, I want the WB. It changes day to day what my favorite is.

My first love would be the Thoroughbred.
My favorite breed to own and ride, however, is the Fjord :) Arabians comes 2nd

I've had a selection of breeds of ponies and horses all my life and have distinct preferences depending on what discipline.

But particular favourites are TB and Arab and if I could only have one breed it would be TB or else I'd cheat and persuade folks an Anglo Arab was a breed in it's own right

I love riding small drafts and draft crosses. They're so smooth and comfy. I rode a Perch/Thoroughbred once, and he was like a big, warm couch. I could have fallen asleep on him.

Norm is like that too, except not nearly as well trained. He has the nicest trot I've ever ridden. He's just so darn tall. It's a looong way down.

I love Arabians, National Show Horses, Saddlebreds, and Miniatures. I've done saddle seat most of my life, so I have a bit more experience with these guys. They're just so much fun to ride! I also showed Minis for a couple years and I don't think I've ever had as much fun showing and working with horses than I did with Minis.

My favourite are Latvian Warmbloods, draft type - not only because they are our local breed and widespread here, but also because they are generally mild tempered, friendly, endurante and all-purpose - able to trek, jump, pull carriages, you name it.

But I am absolutely sure I will own a Welsh Cob some day, too. They are just gorgeous and seem to fit my needs.

Have you EVER considered a Welsh/QH cross? I met one a few years back.

She was ~ 15hh, well built and drop dead gorgeous. She was a buckskin with black points and that didn't hurt, either, lol!
The owners trail ride her and told me that they show her hunter. They said that she turns heads everwhere they take her.
OH, I love Arabians, but QH's are pretty much the most versatile breed, IMHO.

I like TBs, but you can't beat a good TBx. Irish Sports Horses, or WBxTBs, HighlandxTB, Cleveland Bay x TB, Connemara x TB... I've ridden all of these crosses and they're fab. TB's are intelligent and athletic, and the crossbreds tend to be a bit more chilled out and a bit hardier for living out. My current boy is mostly TB with a bit of danish warmblood in him... and I think it's the warmblood in him that makes me like him so much. I don't think we'd click quite as well if he were pure TB!

I resisted for a long time, telling myself I liked something cob by instead, like my last horse, who was an Irish Draught x Welsh Cob. But I've been converted a by a string of very nice TBs and TB crosses particularly I've ridden in the last few years, culminating in getting Fitz... I agree, they are very curvy and often a bit short in the back and leggy, but when you cross them with something else they often turn out quite nice... hence why I like Fitz, he's much more boxy than a pure TB would be.

What kind of breeds do you like instead of TBs? Something chunkier?
