Guess on possible breed(s)?

We picked this little girl up last weekend. Story is she was abandoned by a boarder and was a registered QH, so of course no papers.

Hubby thinks she isn't 6 yrs old as thought, but younger, and probably QH just in an awkward stage.

My stance is that she is probably around six, possibly some sort of hackney or other pony and horse cross. Haven't measured her yet, but guessing under 14hh. She is ribby coming out of winter and hasn't been wormed for a while, but that will be taken care of this weekend, along with her hooves.

Any thoughts or guesses from the forum?

Pic isn't great, sorry. Taken on my phone, literally about an hour after we brought she and a another mare from the same place home. I will get some better ones and post hopefully this weekend.

I'll be eager to see more pictures :D

Also wanted to say that I got my gelding from after he was abandoned at the boarding barn by his previous owner. By the looks of that picture, he looked similar to your horse. But, once he was healthy, he became an awesome horse! I hope this girl becomes a great horse for you, as well :D

Thanks to all who chimed in with replies. We're anxious to see what unfolds with her as she is with us longer.

Here is an updated pic of her. Not the greatest quality, but taken ad hoc while out doing something other than taking pics. :) About 30 minutes prior to taking this picture she was all brushed and pretty. lol

She did great Friday for her first hoof trim since she came here, and was really good when we got on her with a saddle and rope halter and reins yesterday. Didn't ask much of her for the first time, but there was no buck, rear or even really any dancing around or nervousness. Very pleased with her so far and she has become one of the first to come to greet us when we go out.

Hard to say in that condition. If she wasn't fed right then she was not able to develop her muscles properly, making her look leaner than she should. She looks to me to be QH, if not pure then a cross of some sort. Keep in mind that the QH breed is varied depending on the discipline they've been bred for. You get tall lines, short lines, stocky show-bred types with the dainty faces and feet, lean running-bred types, big "drafty" ranch and trail types, downhill cutting types and many more. They are not like most breeds which stick to common build and characteristics. You cannot even go by height, as I've known purebred QH that weren't even 14hh and some that were 16.2hh.
