Have You Owned AQHA IMA FUDGEAHOLIC TOO?

We purchased this horse in January. He came with AQHA papers that were never transferred from the breeder. The breeder had signed them, and left the transfer open. We did contact the Dayton, OH breeder, and know that 'Fudge' was sold as a yearling in 2002. I know of two other owners (brokers) in PA in 2008. The other six years are a mystery.

I contacted AQHA, and they list the owner as the breeder. The broker was 'less than honest' with us, and the papers don't exactly match the horse. The broker listed him as black, his papers say brown, and when he shed out this spring he is a bay. He is a dark bay, but definitely a bay. We have ordered a DNA test to see if the papers match the horse. Fudge has been very sick with EPM. He has a blog on his rehabilitaion:

Hm...Looks kind of like one of the foals I saw once that came from a mare that I leased for a year..Her name was Fudge but her real name was Hot Fudge Sundae..all of her babies names had something to do with fudge or chocolate too. Maybe there's some link? The mare I rode was born with large black and white pinto spots but eventually went to a fleabitten grey, but when it rained you could see her black skin where her spots once were

Just curious-- did you ever do the DNA test to determine if your Fudge matches the papers he came with?

We didn't get the DNA packet from AQHA until recently, then I got busy and did not collect the hair. It's on my list. I'll post when we get the results.

AQHA called yesterday. The DNA is a match; we do have IMA FUDGEAHOLIC TOO. The concern for us was if we didn't have Fudge, then was the horse we were sold HYPP positive?

Fudge is slowly getting better. He still has very little feeling in his rear feet, and is prone to tripping. We are hoping that the shorter natural trim he got yesterday will give the proprioceptors in his feet (nerve endings in the digital cushion that sense the location and type of ground) a better chance of recovery.

Have you tried tubing him with baycox at all? That's what we use to help horses with suspected EPM. It eats protozoa to help slow down the disease, but of course, there is no cure for EPM. Just didnt know if you had tried it at all. Good luck with him.
