Talking Help with reading a tattoo

Hi, I've been a "lurker" up till now and really appreciate all the wonderful info shared here! I bought a Thoroughbred gelding a few weeks ago (my first horse since my teens) and am unsure of his age or any other registration on him (papers, etc). I was told he is 10, but when I had him vetted the vet said he thought the first letter was a B which would make him 15. Perhaps an E (I say hopefully)? I took some pics of his tattoo and am wondering if anyone could try to make it out? The pics are at and I'd love to hear any guesses. Thanks for playing! I'll post back if I get any "hits" so that people like me who lurk might get some guidance on reading their own tattoos. He's a flea bitten gray with a white star and connected stripe down his face until you get to his sunburned nose, which is bare. When I got him his name was Melvin, don't know the source. Thanks, all!

The B will tell you his age. The letters correspond with the year born. There are charts online. Can't link right now but if I come across it I will look to see the year.

Can't help you with the tattoo, not familiar with lip tattoos, sorry, but...OMG, he could be the brother of my Beau( he's in my " critters" album on here, the gray with the white mane)..... im going to have to check for a tattoo. He's a rescue thought to be TB or Appendix......

Sadly the tattoo is too far gone to read anymore.

I can't make the first and last ones, but the middle numbers look something like a 5 and a 7. I could be wrong, but that is just what it looks like to me. The five could very well be an 8.
