hey color guru's!! i'm curious!

Ok I was looking through appaloosa sport horse websites and foudn this gorgeous girl. And her color is Astounding! She was born grulla. With the dark mane and tail. And at around a year or 2 old she turned a palomino color with a white mane and tail. While she is genetically grulla. So her gentics are Black with the dun modifer. But there is something else. And the people that own and breed the sport horses don't even know! Ok now on to the pictures! Lol first heres the website so you can see more pictures than I post lol i'm only going to post a couple.

I'm confused as well.

You would think she would have some sort of red gene to have a coat with such a clearly red base to it.

Well it's definitely not sooty or she'd be going the other way. I'm just curious as to if there is something else out there? Or with the dun gene and apploosa gene if one of the normal modifers would give her this gorgeous change.

She almost has the coloring of a nice flaxen chestnut. But then again, not really. And almost like a dark Amber Champagne, but of course, she is genetically grulla which is what throws me off here. I'm stumped after quite a bit of googling.

I mean, I have come up with some possible cases but all are ruled out by the fact she IS a grulla, and I cannot find any cases of a definite grulla who has turned this way. I want to say cream on grulla, that's my best guess.

She's appy, 'nuff said.

Lp, the appy gene, does some funky things to color. If she weren't appy, she'd be normal grulla ;)

I'm with the last poster.

I've seen the Lp gene reap havoc with all kinds of colors... nothing quite like this girl, but, if she's genetically grulla then I don't see what else could be causing it.
