Cute little fellow. Could be part QH or a whole lot of QH mixed with a Paint. Love QH's!

Just throwing that out there, haha.
How do I get him registered if I want to ? I'm thinking about getting into shows but they have to have papers don't they ?

Maybe, quarter horse, and Some kinf of Spotted horse, like a spotted walker, or Spottld Saddle horse.. Looks gaited to me, but with a quarter horse front, and gaited back, lol.. Pretty!.

No he cannot be registered with the aqha...

Are there any tests I can have a vet run on him to see what he is exactly ?

He could be registered with the AQHA, if he was an appendix, (his sire being tb, and dam being qh) ..I don't see tb in this horse. I see a gaited back end.. Especially in that last pic, where he is all stretched out. Definitely has a compact qh head, and ears.

You can not register a horse with AQHA that has toniano pattern. There is no maybe about it.

Its just not there. Tobiano does not carry in AQHA lines. Paint yes, QH no. So for all intents and purpose this horse is a Pinto.

From AQHA rules concerning white markings on QHs:
    (d) White Markings: A horse having white markings with
Underlying light skin beyond any one of the following described lines
Shall be eligible for registration by AQHA only if it is parentage verified
Through DNA typing the offspring, its sire and its dam. Breeders
Should be aware that the American Quarter Horse, while long recognized,
Identified and promoted as a solid-colored horse, can and
Does occasionally produce offspring with overo paint characteristics.
Such markings are uncharacteristic of the breed and are considered to
    Be undesirable traits.
The following notification shall be placed on
Registration certificates of horses exceeding these marking limitations:
“This horse has white markings designated under AQHA
Rules as an undesirable trait and uncharacteristic of the breed.”
