I used to ride a welsh pony....HATTTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDD her!

At the time, my instructor put me on her to help retrain her because her previous owners had done a poor job with her. She would slam you into fences, go into bucking fits just because...she also would race towards a jump at full speed (I was jumping about 3' fences at the time...maybe taller, I can't remember) and she would go full speed and at the exact last possible second she'd slam on her brakes and send me flying over by myself or she's dodge to the side and toss me off sideways. She'd cut across the ring to get near the other horses and she's bite you when you were picking out her rear hooves or grooming her near her hind end...

One time she sent me flying "into" an oxer jump. I landed with one leg dangled over one pole and my arm on the other side dangling over the other pole. I was hanging in the middle. My mother and instructor freaked out but I was ok. Got back on her, beat the snot out of her (nicely of course) and she was fine for the rest of the lesson.

Her name was Poco.....dang brat should have been called Loco...

Only "horse" I've ever ridden where I needed spurs AND a riding crop in each hand to help keep her under control. Needless to say, she was eventually put down after my instructor sold her because she was completely unmanagable. I tried to muster sadness but sadly...I felt none. And now I plan on NEVER riding another Welsh pony....I'm open to trying others but not a Welsh.

I've ridden a few ponies. They were tricky little creatures for sure.

Just last week the other girl who rides in my lesson rode a little white pony. She's about as tall or maybe a little taller than me and I'm 5'4. She's a bit skinnier than I am. He was fast, and when we were going back to the arena he did a little trot in place, reared a bit, etc.

If you ask me I can take or leave ponies!

But, like others have said, you would be fine on some of the bigger ones!

I love me some ponytude! You have to admit with those cute little faces, they can and do get away with murder.
Of course getting away with murder is why they have those attitudes.

    Pomytude!

Oh yes, they definitely have Ponytude! Being the 115lb midget that I am, I am supposed to be taking a fat pasture ornament of a Welsh Pony and getting him back into shape. Did awesome the first ride, 2nd.... oh he figured out what I was all about and oh did I get attitude!

Today was about trying to buck, only he's too fat to get both hind legs in the air (so pitiful it was hilarious), so he gave that up and went for bolting.

Lemme tell you a fat lil Welsh pony can BOLT. Thankfully he's way too fat to bolt very far!! I will run off with you......run, run, run, gasp, cough, wheeze.... ok, maybe not.

I finally had a friend snap a pic of me riding Lily, my 13'2h grade Welsh pony this week. If I can ride her and have her go all day without an issue, you can probably ride the ponies if you'd like.
