I'm really interested in knowing what breed my horse is
I have a little stud he was a rescue horse I bought him from a guy calling him a racking horse..well I don't know what to beleave vet says my baby boy (twitch) is 3 years old but hasent dropped and dosent act studdish vet then said she dosent know how old he is I think about 8-9 months sadly he is broke to ride and was badly abused before I got him id say he is about 13hh im not sure but id like to know what breed he is and how old you guys think he is I will post pictures in a minute
I've had him about a month and no he had a nasty gash on his leg there when I got him I been putting this medicine on it called blue kote it's kinda purple blue thankfully it's almost healed now him and a paint mustang mare I got were in really bad shape when I got them she is a BLM mare so I know her breed but he is so confuseing I don't know what to make of him
They will get there the vet dosen't want me to put too much weight on them too fast i've only had them about a month I got them on 9 /8/13 the mare is a BLM mare her papers will be in any day i'm just wondering what breed he is and about how old everyone thinks he is he hasent dropped yet and dosen't' act studdish even the vet is unsure of his age his teeth are rough she at first said he was 3 till she felt him down and found out other wise
You are doing the right thing is letting them gain weight steadily rather than feeding them a lot of hard food. If you can get them out on good grass that will help significantly.
They also need worming and a tight series of wormer as they gain strength.
I am concerned that the vet cannot say how old the colt is. From the pictures he is certainly very young, probably a n older yearling or two year old. I am only saying that because of his tail length.
A vet should be able to easily state a horse's age by his teeth when it is eight years or under. A yearling will have all 12 milk teeth grown through. A two year old will begin to get its permanent teeth through and the centre front will loosen and start to fall out ages around 2.5 years.
His teeth are really scraped up she went by how smoothe his teeth were I questioned it cause I don't think he's over a year and she double checked and said about a year but first was 3! She is a little questionable on some things but others I like about her and they are on a 6 week series of wormers start off small wait 2 weeks another wait 2 weeks another of differant types and levels all vet perscribed i've also been takeing update pictures since I got them as for grass I have a place i'm about to move them too we tilled the property up and planted bermuda rye and oats all at once they should start in time for the bermuda to root before the cold and by the time the rye roots I will start getting cool and I think the oats are cool weather plants too I have another person helping with the pasture they also are free fed round baled of hay they get one each every time one runs out it's replaced =)
I can't really tell either. It's hard to say at this time. Definitely post updates! I would like to see their progress now that they have found a good, safe home!
Just be sure to watch out for signs of founder. Hope everything works out great for them
