Mare's breed? Baffled.

A few months ago our BO bought a five year old chestnut mare off of one of his friends. She's a trained header, and is actually quite a nice horse besides the fact that she tends to overreach (hence the boots in all photos). I was suprised to find that we got her for $300...just goes to show you what the horse market it like right now, down here :3.

Anyways, we didn't know her breed, and I was curiouse. The man we bought her from said she was a quarter horse, but she looks nothing like one to me. Far too narrow (I have a hard time fitting her for a saddle) and lanky looking. The guy was just guessing.

When I saw her I almost wanted to say some sort of cross bred gaited horse. She walks, trots, and lopes like any horse but she's got this odd gait between the trot and canter that she'll do sometimes if she's nervouse or doesnt want to canter (not often. She's a very high strung animal). I have no idea what it is, as I have no experience with gaited horses.

She's terrible to keep weight on and has less than stellar conformation, but she's a lovely little horse. Great temperment, a bit hot headed- but a hard worker. She's got this crazy wonky head though ._.

What do you think?

Hey!! You got the same reins I do!! *easily amused*

I think she looks a bit like a standard bred to me, at least by her face... but I'm only saying that because she looks a lot like one I used to know. Very cute mare though, looks like a joy :)

I agree w/the walker or saddlebred cross, especially since she has a "crossover" gait. I think she's quite attractive.

Are you sure she's just five years old? And was she rescued out of a bad situation, given the condition of her feet?

That face seems so saddlebred to me. Also the fine, silky hair.
