Maybe an Appy?

So I have this eight year old chestnut mare named Summer [aka Summer Breeze] and last year I noticed a few hairs on the left side of her nack turning grey in just a few places which looked like roaning. Yesterday I did a full-body grooming and noticed there are more, that stretch about 1/4-1/2 the way up her neck. She's also starting to get a couple of gray parts, some that are just a couple strands, some that look like grey highlights. Do you think it is just because of age, or maybe breed?

IMO it would be pretty unusual for an eight year old chestnut who had the LP gene (the basic "on off switch" for appaloosa characteristics and etc.) to show no other app characteristics besides roaning. By that age she would most likely also have some mottled skin, white sclera around the iris of her eye, striped hooves on her not-white-marked legs, etc. My guess is that it is something else besides appaloosa LP causing her roan areas.

Do you have photos of her? That might help with the guessing!

My not so politically correct way of saying a sorrel. LOL we had a sorrel QH that didnt really start getting noticable white hairs til she was 12

I thought so about the other appaloosa characteristics, I was just double checking. Her pictures are in the my horses tab..her name is summer breeze
