Miniatures and Shetlands

A recent thread on Shetland ponies had some excellent photos from the Shetland Islands themselves and out of curiosity got me searching for more pictures.
It seemed, though, that there was not much distinction between Miniature Horses and Shetland ponies.
I know that there is a distinct difference, but, according to breed standards, where does one end and the other start?
In reference to the original type of Shetland pony.
Thanks for your input.

I think it all depends on breeding. Wellbred Minatures do infact look like a fullgrown horse that has been shrunk.
Shetlands always tend to look like ponies lol and are typically bigger, not just in height but weight as well (assuming that they are on the right feed regimen).

Yearling
In the breed registries there are minimal differences aside from bloodline, and many ASPC shetlands are double registered as AMHR miniatures. There are also multiple types of shetlands, including modern and foundation. However, I always considered "true" shetlands to be more like rbarlo's, which is what my shetland is. She's a little taller(42") and much thicker and sturdier looking than an ASPC shetland. My mini has an entirely different body style, more like a miniature arabian, and is much smaller in both frame and type(36.25").

ASPC & AMHR Website is the breed registry website if you'd like to learn more.
