Is this a Morab?

My wife bought this horse recently. He is only our second so we are still learning. The lady we bought her from got him as part of a lot, wanting a couple of other horses but this one was part of the deal. She thinks its a 3 year old Morab. It doesn't really matter cause he has been great for us, but I'm curious. She also told us he's a black roan. From what I've been able to find, there seems to be some discussion about whether black roan is a real color. He is black with white hairs over almost most of his body. Right down by his feet and in spots on his head there are small brown areas with no white hairs. Thanks for your opinions.

To me he looks like he is greying out and he does look like he could be a morab..of course there is a full blood arabian mare out at the place where I ride who looks just like him with a slightly bigger head. But I would go with morab.. he's cute either way :]

He is a gray. He will probably get more gray as he ages. You can see Arab in him. Pretty boy.

His face looks lighter than his body in some pictures (and it's hard to tell in others) so I would say that he is greying out. A good indication is that roans generally have a darker face and head, whereas greys generally have a lighter one.

I think he is graying out too.

And he could possibly be a morab, his head does look arab like.

He definelty had an arab head...and I think he's a beautiful what I like to call a 'steel grey'...very pretty...and he will get lighter and lighter as he ages.....My arab started out real dark like that and by the time I sold him when he was 6 he was a lot lighter and more

Definitely goin' grey :)

He looks pretty Morab-ish to me. I've met a Morab mare who looked kinda like him, wideset eyes, Arabish head, but with a slightly stockier build.

I've also met a Morab x Friesian who had those big, liquid Morab eyes. Beautiful colt, unfortunately not for sale.

Thanks for the opinions guys. He isn't very heavy atm twogeldings, but he was underfed and we have been working on putting some weight on him. So if he's going gray and not a roan, could he be doing that as early as 3? The lady we bought him from said he was 3, but I'm not sure she knew positively. If he's older it's ok, but it would be nice to really know if he's closer to 3 or 13.

Regardless, we are thrilled with him and can't wait till he gets some time with the trainer next spring. There are 16 horses living at the stables he's at and everyone agrees he easily has the best personality. I just want to know as much about him as I can and unfortunately the previous owner didn't have much info. Apparently she had him as a rescue.

Most foals that are going to go grey start to show some sign fairly early, such as grey 'goggles' around the eyes. So he could easily be three with that sort of colouring. In fact, with his colouring, I would be pretty confidant to say he is only young still, as greys fade with age. I would be expecting a 13 year old to be mosly white, maybe still with some dappling :)
