My trainer who is working with my 4 year old gelding, Sam Elliot just brought a 2 year old gelding home from the pens to gentle for an upcoming adoption... Needless to say there is a very high possibility that this boy wont make it to the adoption because I am considering adopting him. He was one of the horses from the Twin Peaks round up and almost died from pneumonia last winter/this spring. The wranglers did an amazing job nursing him back to health. He definitely needs some groceries but I do believe this little boy would mature into a lovely mount. These photos don't do him justice. He has some big feet for a 2 year old!

Oh, wow , what a stunning color he is. As he matures and bulks up a bit, I have to agree with you, he is going to be one hell of a looker. If I was your trainer, I think I would be tempted to keep him for myself :lol:.

If you don't mine my asking, does your trainer volunteer for the BLM or is he/she part of the trainer incentive program with the Mustang Heritage Foundation?

Michele said if I wouldn't have gone with her to chose Sam Elliot she would have kept him for herself. Lol she says that almost every other day. She is a TIP trainer with the Mustang Heritage Foundation and she is also the hub leader for BLM volunteers in this area. I'm signing up as a volunteer this week and will be working my first booth this weekend and that county fair.

Oh yeah, you gotta keep him. It appears he's even got the stripes.
Looks like he'll be a tank when he gets bigger -Hubba Hubba:)

There are a couple of things I would check out. First, be sure to have his lungs checked by a vet. Pneumonia or bad cases of the flu often leave a horse with chronic COPD. The other is his right rear - it almost looks clubbed in the pictures.

Good luck with him...:)

Thanks for the warning about having his lungs checked out. My vet will be out to pull Sam Elliot's wolf teeth in q few weeks and the grulla should be halter gentler enough for a vet check. He definitely does not have a clubbed foot at all. His stance in the photos is because he is scared and ready to run. He has beautiful straight legs and gorgeous big feet.

I'm about 90% sure I am going to adopt him. When I showed up this morning both of his eyes were swollen and goopy:( He isn't halter gentled yet so he can't be doctored. I called my vet and set an appointment to have Sam Elliot's wolf teeth pulled and to get a check up and opinion from my vet on the 2 year old because he dealt with a bad bout of pneumonia. I just want to make sure he is medically ok before I sign the paperwork. I'm thinking of naming him Hank or Wyatt. I love the outlaw country names! If anyone has a good country boy name suggestion let me know:)

He's surely is a looker. I have a Mustang mare, not as good looking as him. The breed can be a really good breed, but they are also trickly to handle sometimes. I had a half Mustang half Paint, I have a full Nevada Mustang now and have a half mustang half quarter horse boarded here.

I have two other BLM mustangs also... Sam Elliot is a 4 year old sooty bay that was rounded up in the Buffalo Hills HMA and I adopted him out of the pens on June 15, 2011. Cameo is a 17 year old red dun that was born in the pens in Litchfield, CA. I think that little guy would fit in quite well with two I have already adopted:)

Cameo is an amazing horse! She can be a butthead on the ground at times but boy oh boy does she take care of me in the saddle. I moved up into the Sierra mountains back in February and I am so in her element now. I have well over 50 miles of trails that surround my house and she has proven herself to be quite the mountain goat lol. Poor girl got stuck ponying my mini gelding jack for 30 miles three weeks ago and he was ultra horny and kept on trying to mount her for 27 of those miles. Hahahahaha I had her at a trot and he was holding onto her butt with his front legs with his chin resting on top of her butt and was trotting on his back legs. That little guy just cant control himself when she goes into heat but she tolerates him because she knows he can't reach haha.

Here is Sam Elliot and the 2 year old right after he got unloaded off of the trailer after a four hour ride down south from the pens. Oh and the ones of him standing by himself is from this morning. Poor baby's eyes are so swollen and icky:( Lol and I had to include a photo of Sam Elliot from this morning. He got moved out of his 30' pen and is now learning how to live in a stall. Next month he moves into a small pasture.

Well once again it is being crabby about uploading photos so I was only able to put three up right now.

Your horse is a gorgeous! My family and i have two mustangs and they are awesome critters. We got the first one about 6 years ago, a 15.2 hh red roan mare, and she was my very first horse. The other one, a 14.2 hh grey gelding, was given to us, because his owner couldn't deal with him, but anyway they are currently residing on a nice big pasture and are lovely horses. They have been a neat experience. If i was you i would defintely adopt him, if your up for the challenge, that is:)

Please excuse my picture over load but I got a little camera happy today. Lol this is only a few of the 233 that I took today. Sam Elliot had quite an interesting lesson today and surprised both myself and the trainer with his HUGE explosion when he panicked about a sound. He was actually running to her when you see him trying to jump the panel. Lol no worries Sam is fine only the panel got hurt. After this happened and she walked up to her he acted like nothing happened and continued on with his lesson. He was running to her for comfort it was pretty crazy and cool to see and catch in a photograph. He is such a calm horse it was very interesting to see him panic so bad. Lol good thing he is in great hands:) Anywho enough of my rambling...

I know right! This right here is exactly why you should have strong 6' fences during gentling! Lol Sam has been in training for 60 days with about 30 days off because of his trainer doing clinics and blm adoption events. Starting Friday he is getting worked once in the morning and evening for the next 60 days yay! I love that he is starting to get dapples! Love love love it!
