Didnt you say you were a novice? I would advise that you ask a trainer for help. Raising young ones is really hard epsecially if you don't know how to watch for/correct their behavior.
There is a novice at our barn and she baught a nice older (19) been there done that gelding and she manadge to screw him up because she didnt take lessons just hopped on and went to the beach. Well the little arab dumped her hauled butt back home! 2 years later she is still trying fix what she did. The horse is a mess....
Im not trying to be harsh please don't think im being a meany but im just looking out for you and your family a lot of people can get hurt if they don't know how to properly brake in a horse.
