Mystery Breed

I wonder if anyone has any idea what breed I have here. My brother and I rescued him and the former owner had no information on his breed or history. He stands about 11.5 hands high, stocky and very strong with a gentle personality. My guess is he is about 5 or 6 years old

He reminds me of my sis in law's minis, only maybe a bit taller.

I found this pic of one that looks similar

And look at all the different kinds of minis!

We have some minis but he is twice their size and weight.
