Ok so for the past year I have been searching for my mares papers, only going off of stories the woman I purchased her from told me.
She had a few owners before me and apparently no one could remember ANYTHING about where they got her from (weird since no one owned her for over a year) so tracking them down wasn't easy.
A few days ago I googled "appendix broodmare 2004 sorrel MN" and a breeders website popped up and they had her listed as one of their broodmares!!! The pictures are identical to her, the timeline matches!!!
The breeders owned her sire and dam, she was born in 2004 and they sold her in 2010, she had 2 foals with them, very nice bloodlines!
Only problem is that it's like they disappeared in 2011. Their fb page, website, and Twitter account hasnt been updated since then. Phone number listed was disconnected. I even contacted a horse rescue located in the same town and they had never heard of them. And they live 4 hrs from me.
Is there a way I can prove to aqha that she is that horse? Dna test? Can I get her papers transferred without the breeders?
I know with my own website that if I enter my domain into whois.com, it gives my full name, address and phone number as the website owner. Maybe that could lead you to the breeders since their website is still online? I have to pay for my domain name and hosting every year so that's weird their site is still up with no updates.
Not sure of that helps but thought I'd throw it out there
Usually, if you have a name to start with, DNA test can tell you if it is THAT horse, so worth a shot. And do talk to the registry. They can often be helpful.
Calling them on monday to further explain the situation.
I did email them but they said I would need her registration certificate, write out a statement explaining the situation signed by both parties, transfer papers, and send in a dna sample....I feel like he misunderstood me and thought I had contacted the breeder already
Its taken me a year to track down her previous owners, with virtually no information or help from any of them. the only piece im missing is the person that purchased her from this breeder, and considering that she was rescued from them for neglect I doubt ill ever be able to find them.
Point is ive gotten farther than anyone thought was possible (many thought she wasnt even registered) so im definitely not going to give up on this now.
Technically it wasnt a rescue organization. A family in 2012 drove past a property and saw a few horses in bad condition, my mare was in the worse shape. So they went up to the house and offered them $100 for her. She was extremely emaciated and fearful of humans. Claimed the owner had passed away and the horses were given to the neighbor who couldnt afford to care for them. They sold her in 2013. I asked them if they remembered which town, in case law enforcement got involved with the remaining horses but they "couldnt" remember. Nice people, friends with them on fb and their always telling me how happy they are that the mare ended up with me, just very vague and unhelpful....
When you found the appendix mare that was a dead ringer for your's was there a name on the horse? Hopefully AQHA system is set up with cross referencing. Why not send pics of the mare to the horse clubs and perhaps someone will recognize her.
I know her registered name and know who The breeders are. The papers are still in their name. The problem is I can not get a hold of them its like they disappeared
Elsa when I looked up the papers for you she was genetic typed. Maybe its possible they can DNA her to match her to the papers? Still not sure if they could register her to you. Maybe the people you acquired her from can write a written statement? Probably the best bet is just calling. Posted via Mobile Device
Alright so I was able to contact the breeder but there's a whole new set of problems...
Hes a crazy old man. After the death of his daughter and his girlfriend leaving him, his breeding program fell apart. Now has 50+ horses hes giving away for free cause he cant afford them anymore.
He has my mares papers but since he found them in his drawer he thinks that she must never had left the property, because he hasnt sold a horse in 10 years....
Then I asked about her colt "way to native" but he claims he had never had a horse named that and AQHA must had messed up, and have been placing random horses under his name.
Now im making plans with several rescue groups to drive 4.5 hrs to his barn. Gelding all his studs. getting some of the injured ones some medical attention. And hopefully placing them all in good homes :/ and while im there hopefully get her papers
Good luck!! I hope you get her papers!! Posted via Mobile Device
