Question POA QH cross no pictures

Ok, Just a quick question about how this happened.... I had a black POA mare years ago, she had tiny white spots all over and a flaxen/brown mane and tail. She was bred to a bright chestnut QH (not my choice just had to deal with it when I got her) Her baby was stunning. The colt was born solid dark grey with a white star, and turned very dark black and didnt fade in the sun, but his mane and tail were practically white, and he had no spots or other markings kind of like this without the dapples. I do know the man that now owns him so I might be able to get pictures if he still has him. He has no rocky in him, and I know its common in them, so thats why I posted this here and not in colors... Hope I made a good choice lol

What is the question ? He has no rocky in him? What does that mean ? You don't own the colt? You no longer own the mare? Not sure what this is about.

I was just wondering how he got his color if is 50% POA 50% QH and I know that the color is more common in Rocky mountain horses and I thought it was strange how dramatic he looked compared to both parents... I did own them but sold them to a friend.

Are you asking about whether the silver gene came from the POA side or the QH side? Silver dapple is commonly seen in Rocky Mountain Horses, but is definitely not restricted to them. I'm not sure about POA, but it is known to exist in quarter horses.

The silver gene only affects black hair, so if it did come from the QH half, it wouldn't have shown up on the chestnut QH sire. From your description of the dam, I'm really not sure if she was silver dapple or perhaps something like varnish roan. The tiny white spots you mention on her make me think she had varnish roan (which is common in POA) whether or not she also had silver.

Without pictures of the dam, it's purely speculation, however.
