Posting rumors on Allbreedpedigree.com

Allbreedpedigree.com is supposed to be a site that the public can use for pedigree information. Unfortunately I have noticed that some individuals and/or groups are using the site to post rumors, innuendos, and outright lies about horses and breeders in the pedigree information section.

Just yesterday I found a pedigree for one of my mares, a pedigree that I did not post to the site, and in the "information" section someone had written that she was euthanized in 2005 for a "genetic disease". Not true. I was so upset that I deleted the pedigree. Now I wish I wouldn't have because I know the ISP number of the person posting the information is captured by the site and maybe I could have reported it and found out who did it.

Has anyone else ever had a problem like this where they found rumors or lies in a pedigree? What did you do?

There's a good chance that the information was not posted in a malicious manner but your mare and another mare in a different breed association that was suffering from a genetic disease shared the same name. Correct your mare's information than move on. The information on AllBreed is only as good as the people who put the information up. There isn't a watchdog group that goes behind everyone and verifies the information. If it does happen again than you go from there.

Exactly. I know of a stud that was N/H on allbreed that the owners ROUTINELY changed the one line leading to Impressive and claimed he was N/N...

They'll still have a record of who modified it and their IP address even after you delete the pedigree. If you're certain it was your horse that they put up false information about, you can notify the site admin and they can use that information to monitor other updates being submitted from that IP address.

Unfortunately, I'm positive it wasn't a mistake.

If you are trying to look up a pedigree and there are several horses with the same name, AllBreedpedigree automatically brings up a list of horses with that name, their breeds, year of birth, sex, color, and sire and dam. For example, there are 3 "Red Ribbons" on Allbreedpedigree; 2 of them are Thoroughbreds, one born in 1966, the other born in 1839, and one part-Arab born in 1983. In my mare's case, she was the only horse with that name of any breed. There was no mix-up.

I'd just shrug it off if this was the first time, but this was the third time this has happened. I have a fairly good idea who is doing this. There is a group of, let's just say "ne'er-do-wells", that populate a Yahoo chat group who started this stuff with my breed and are now moving on to other breeds (mainly Saddlebreds, Arabs and Warmbloods) as well.
