    Question about Height!

So I have talked with a trainer about a horse she has for me. She really needs to sell him so she said she would entertain ANY offer at this point. Looking at him on the website she gave me it said he is 16+ hands tall.

What does it mean when a '+' symbol is added to the height? Sounds silly, I know, but I've never really thought to ask what it meant with a plus next to the height. Does it mean that they are 16 hands and the plus means they are still growing? Because some of the other horses she is selling don't have it. He is 4 years old so that's what came to mind.

I'm just curious is all, if he stays 16 hands that is totally fine with me. I don't need something huge. Just never knew what it meant

In my experience, it means that they haven't actually measured the horse, but assume it is taller than the number of hands they're listing. So 16+ would mean over 16 hands.

It may be a guesstimation. As in they haven't measured him in awhile but he looks like 16hh. Or he may still be growing.

Whatever size he is, make sure he fits you. Don't just buy him because he's pretty or because your trainer wants you to :)

    Best of luck

Oh yeah I definitely wouldn't buy him just because my trainer wanted me to. She did say she had a few others in mind besides him but he was the first one she happened to point out.

I had a feeling it had to do with them still growing, or they are above that height. Thanks!
