Registering

I bred my paint barrel horse with a paint stallion that we got and now I have a paint colt from the two. He is 3 years old now and starting his training. Both parents are registered except for the papers for his mom have been misplaced! I have never seen her papers before as I am only 14 and never really needed to look at them for anything I have done with her before so I don't know what her registered name is. It was 5 years ago that we got her and it was from a huge horse ranch so I don't think that I can get any information from them. I am just wondering how can I register my colt without having her papers. Or if it is even possible. I have been showing horse since I was two but only locally and I never even thought about registering horses until. Anything will help! Thanks! We are still trying to locate the papers!

If you had an idea of the mare's registered name & the name of the ranch, I could try to look her up using my APHA plus account. A photo of her left side would help with that, but the search can only be done with registered name.

As far as registering the 3yo colt.
1st you would need the mare transferred to you, effective before the dialing date.
If you can't get the mare's papers transferred, you would need the mare's owner of record to sign a transfer.
2nd the stallion owner needs to file a breeding report
3rd you will have to get DNA profiles of sire, dam and foal
4th you will have to pay all of the fees

You may not be able to get APHA papers because of the costs and other people involved, but it is definitely worth a try! Call APHA and see what they can do to help you.

Alternatively, you can get PtHA papers for much cheaper and the sire & dam don't need to be registered for you to get them.

Alright thanks! I own both the mate and the stallion. The stallion is now a gelding however. I will try to call them and see what I can work out! :) Also what is PtHA? Sorry! I am new to registering!

This is the registry form and where you can get a hold of them. For showing , there is usually more 4-h and pinto shows then there are APHA ones....It might be a good idea..less money also..
